CoachSG
Sport Singapore recognises that our coaches and athletes are the nation’s driving force for sporting excellence. Sport Singapore invests in development programmes and funding for Singapore’s sporting talent and professionals. CoachSG aims to enhance and support the professional development of coaches, and raise the profile of coaching as a profession.
National Registry of Coaches (NROC) was created in 2003 to raise the standard and professionalism of sports coaching in Singapore. It serves to ensure minimum technical qualification of sport coaches, to ensure that practicing coaches continue to improve and that coaches provide a safe environment for their athletes. Today, there are over 4,000 coaches listed across 74 sports in the NROC and coaches can choose to publish their profile via an online public database. Coaches in the NROC are duly certified under the Singapore Coach Excellence (SG-Coach) Programme (formerly known as the National Coaching Accreditation Programme or NCAP) in their respective sports and must hold Standard First Aid certification (including AED). They are committed to abide by the Coach’s Code of Ethics and meet the requirements for Continuing Coach Education Programme. This is part of the quality assurance to users of the coaching services that the coaches registered under NROC are up-to-date in their coaching knowledge and skills.Through NROC, Sport Singapore aims to give recognition to coaches who have been certified and deemed competent by a national body. Doing so also allows the public to have easy access to qualified coaches.

Acro Polates
Gone are the days where pole dancing was seen only in clubs.
Pole dance fitness is now a fast growing trend in Singapore as a legitimate ladies’ fitness program. Since its introduction in Singapore about 6 years ago, several pole dance fitness studios have sprout out across the country offering pole dance courses as a healthy dance program for every day women, similar to Yoga and Pilates, and ACRO POLATES is one such fitness studio, the only one currently in Singapore with IPDFA certified instructors (International Pole dance fitness Association).
Why has pole dance fitness become popular and why is it effective? It is like working out in a gym , and a little like gymnastics on a pole. Participants use their own body as weights when they practice certain pole spins and gravity defying inversions. Coupled with the dance element, pole dance fitness offers a wide range of health and fitness benefits such as improving one’s core strength, muscular strength endurance and toning, flexibility, motor skills and cardiovascular.
That explains why when many women come into contact with pole dance fitness, they fall in love with it instantly for its challenging acrobatic nature of the sport as well as the grace and fluidity of what comes with the dancing part. Today, ACRO POLATES’ students boast an array of housewives, expatriates and corporate ladies including lawyers, doctors, accountants, account managers etc. It is the closest ladies can get to learning gymnastics or acrobat and at Acro Polates, it is never too late to start, as we have also have a handful of ladies in their 40s and 50s taking up the sport too.
